Monday, September 22, 2008; A02Men with egalitarian attitudes about the role of women in society earn significantly less on average than men who hold more traditional views about women's place in the world, according to a study being reported today.
It is the first time social scientists have produced evidence that large numbers of men might be victims of gender-related income disparities. The study raises the provocative possibility that a substantial part of the widely discussed gap in income between men and women who do the same work is really a gap between men with a traditional outlook and everyone else.

I wonder if this is because men who believe in gender equality are pulling more weight at home and therefore less available at work. i.e. One question I always get asked is if I have certain hours I have to keep or if I have to leave by a certain time, presumably because I have to drop off or pick up kids. I would be interested to know if women whose husbands stay home with the kids are paid more like men whose wives stay home.
I think the studied controlled for that, or at least they said they controlled for number of hours worked. I thought it would have to do with seniority (older men with traditional views would make more money and have higher positions). But they said they controlled for that too.
It's an interesting study. Maybe it will open up more angles, like you suggest Melissa.
